“If I have been of service, if I have glimpsed more of the nature and essence of ultimate good, if I am inspired to reach wider horizons of thought and action, if I am at peace with myself, it has been a successful day.”
– Alex Noble
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. Fly your flag!
Welcome to the latest edition of the number one Defense Career Opportunities Newsletter, “DEFCON-1,” a networking newsletter featuring job opportunities and career advice for those who are part of the global defense, aerospace, maritime, marine technology and security industry.
I had a hard drive crash on Sunday night. Rescue workers haven’t found any survivors but they are still looking. The DEFCON 1 newsletter is among the missing. This version, which is shorter than usual, was put together in a pinch last night.
This is a cooperative network. That means everyone’s participation is required to provide job opportunities to share. When you learn about a job opportunity in the defense sector, such as a position that comes open with your company, you send me the title, organization, location, and a brief description; link; or contact information, and I’ll share.
Transitioning, or changing your e-mail address? Don't forget to change your DEFCON – 1 subscription. To unsubscribe, send a blank e-mail from the old account to DCO-unsubscribe@topica.com. Then send a blank e-mail from your new account to DCO-subscribe@topica.com.
I never give out, rent, or sell my list, and neither does Topica.

*** Naval History Seminar
Colleagues: Please join us on Tuesday 20 November for a presentation on an event of importance to all Americans in this new, troubled century.
Lecture: “Pentagon 9/11” by Dr. Sarandis Papadopoulos, of the Naval
Historical Center's Contemporary History Branch, who was the Navy
co-author of the recently published history, Pentagon 9/11. That work provides the most comprehensive account to date of the 11 September 2001 attack on the Pentagon and its aftermath, including unprecedented details of the impact on the building and its occupants and the scope of the rescue, recovery, and care-giving effort. The narrative is based on firsthand accounts of survival, tragedy, and heroism drawn from hundreds of interviews. It records in compelling detail the destruction caused by American Airlines Flight 77 when it crashed into the building. He will also relate the epic struggle of the on-scene survivors and those individuals who led colleagues to safety, firefighters, security and medical personnel.
When: 12:00-1:00 on Tuesday 20 November 2007
Where: National Museum of the United States Navy, Bldg 76, Washington
Navy Yard

*** One of the directors at the NASA Test Facility in Bay Saint Louis, Miss., was known for his inflexible edicts, which he invariably sent in writing, and for which he insisted on a signed receipt declaring that the orders had been received and understood. One day we were rerouting an underground pipe through his office and had to use a jackhammer to break through the concrete floor. I was standing in the hall to get away from the noise and dust when a couple of the director's assistants came by. One commented to the other in a hushed, reverent tone, “Good God, now he's carving them in stone!”
