Overview
The Communications Officer, Nothing But Nets is responsible for strategic communications planning and implementation for the United Nations Foundation’s malaria initiatives-the Nothing But Nets campaign and the UN Foundation’s partnerships with the United Methodist Church, and Lutheran World Relief on the Lutheran Malaria Initiative. He/she will also find and coordinate opportunities for strategic media partnerships and/or events to enhance the Foundation’s goals, objectives, visibility, and effectiveness.
Reporting Relationships/Scope
The Communications Officer, Nothing But Nets reports to the Communications Director, Global Health and is a member of the Public Affairs team. He/she works in close collaboration with the team and coordinates closely with and plays a supporting role to the Director of Nothing But Nets.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
The Communications Officer is responsible for managing and coordinating strategic communications efforts for the UN Foundation’s program areas and specific duties related to Nothing But Nets including:
-Work with program directors and internet team to develop, implement and manage strategic communications plans; -Write press releases, speeches, and presentations; -Work with the internet team to develop on-line content and emails; -Work with Nothing But Nets team to help lead communications relating to the campaign’s fundraising, advocacy, partnerships, city tours, and grassroots efforts; -Develop relationships with key national and international media focused on program areas; -Create media opportunities for the UN Foundation and campaign spokespeople on issues; -Work and coordinate with outside consultants, negotiating terms and contracts when needed; -Support Communications Director and Vice President of Public Affairs in the managing of overall UN Foundation communication efforts; -Work with the Public Affairs team and program staff on campaigns to keep branding and messaging consistent on and offline.
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
-A minimum of 5 years experience in communications and/or public relations and media relations; -Bachelor’s degree preferred in Communications, Writing, International Relations, or Politics; -An interest in and passion for global campaigns related to global health issues; -Proven ability to develop, pitch, and achieve placement in media outlets; -Excellent written and verbal communication a must; -Ability to learn quickly, juggle projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines; -Exceptional time management and organizational skills and the ability to prioritize accordingly; -Sound judgment and attention to detail a must; -Team player a must; -Familiarity with UN, international, and nonprofit issues a plus.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary commensurate with experience. Actual salary will depend on qualifications and anticipated contribution to the Foundation. UNF pays 100% of medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance premiums for its employees and 75% of medical and vision for employees’ dependents.
In addition, UNF provides 20 days of paid vacation per year, 12 paid holidays, three personal days per year, an immediately vested 150% matching 403(b) contribution up to a limit of six-percent of employee pay, Metro Pass benefits, and flexible spending accounts for health and dependent care.
