Welcome to the latest edition of the number one Defense Career Opportunities Newsletter, “DEFCON-1,” a networking newsletter featuring job opportunities and career advice for those who are part of the global defense, aerospace, maritime, marine technology and security industry.

DEFCON 1 brings you job opportunities every week, and counts on members like you to submit job listings to share and post in this newsletter.

Help the network grow.  Sign up a friend.  They can join for free simply by sending a blank email to DCO-subscribe@topica.com.

When you learn about a job opportunity in the defense sector, such as a position that comes open with your company, you send me the title, organization, location, and a brief description; link; or contact information, and I’ll share.  This is a cooperative network.  That means everyone’s participation is required to provide job opportunities to share.

Transitioning, or changing your e-mail address?  Don’t forget to change your DEFCON – 1 subscription.  To unsubscribe, send a blank e-mail from the old account to DCO-unsubscribe@topica.com. Then a blank e-mail from your new account to DCO-subscribe@topica.com.  I cannot do this for you.

I never give out, rent, or sell my list, and neither does Topica.

Please see more information on the event below.

The following is taken from the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund Web site:

The Memorial Day 2012 ceremonies at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial will begin the national commemoration of the Vietnam War’s 50th anniversary.

The Department of Defense’s Office of Commemorations is working with the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund and National Parks Service for a special and inspiring ceremony to thank and honor America’s Vietnam veterans for their service, valor and sacrifice.

Details on the Memorial Day event follow,  and those planning to attend are asked to make plans early, as access to The Wall and seating will be limited due to security preparations.

National Ceremony in Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War

DATE: Monday, May 28, 2012

START TIME: 1:00 pm

LOCATION: Vietnam Veterans Memorial – Enter on Constitution Avenue

CLOSING: 3:30 pm

Unlike previous years, formal invitations are being sent by the Secretary of Defense to more than 2,000 Vietnam Veterans, Gold Star family members, wounded veterans, military and other local hospitals, as well as Congressional Vietnam veterans and distinguished guests.

Veteran Service Organizations that have an association with the Vietnam War, each branch of the Military Service, as well as the Office of the Secretary of Veterans Affairs and other governmental leaders have been asked to provide lists of Veterans to be invited.

It will be impossible to accommodate everyone who wishes to be present at the Memorial for the Memorial Day ceremony, but we are making arrangements to provide an additional viewing area on the knoll just to the East of the Wall, and within line of sight of the event.  In addition, attendees will be able to see the events unfold on large video screens at the site.

Security will be very restrictive. All attendees, in either viewing area, will be required to pass through magnetometers. There will be additional restrictions on items that can be carried into the viewing areas. Bottled water or food, knives, weapons of any type, sharp metal objects, such as nail files, etc. will not be allowed past the security screening points.

Attendees will need to have a photo ID to pass through security.

Invited dignitaries include the Secretary of Defense, the Chairman of Joint Chiefs, the Joint Chiefs, Senator Chuck Hagel (a Vietnam veteran) as well as the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Secretary of the Interior and other cabinet officials.  Award winning actor and Vietnam era Army veteran, Tom Selleck, will serve as Master of Ceremonies. He will be joined by the Marine Corps Band and the Army Chorus. Other VIP guests include Medal of Honor recipients, General Barry R. McCaffrey, Jan Scruggs of the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial Fund and others who are or have relatives who are Vietnam veterans.

Veteran Service Organizations, Gold Star family members and military leaders will lay wreaths during the ceremony..  Taps and a moment of silence will follow the wreath laying. A fly-over by military aircraft will culminate this tribute to America’s Vietnam veterans and begin a series of nationwide commemorations.

The objective of this special ceremony in simple:

TO THANK AND HONOR THE SERVICE, VALOR AND SACRIFICE OF VIETNAM VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES.
