The Investment Company Institute, the national trade association of U.S. investment companies, located in Washington, DC, currently has two openings in our Public Communications Department:

 

Web Editor, Investment Company Institute, Washington, DC

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Contributes to the Institute’s publishing efforts to maintain quality communications (print and electronic, including social media) for members, policymakers, media, and the general public.
  • Manages development of content for ICI’s integrated Web presence, including planning, writing, editing, and updating content of the site.
  • Continually monitors the website to ensure timeliness, accuracy and usability.
  • Working with Senior Director, Policy Writing & Editorial, and other Public Communications staff, develops and implements organizational web strategy; identifies and recommends new Web features and content; develops special sections of website to accommodate special initiatives and events as needed.
  • Tracks website traffic to identify trends in site usage, monitor and report on visitor statistics, and assess how to better engage visitors.
  • Regularly reviews site to ensure best-practice search-engine optimization (SEO).
  • Contributes to the Institute’s periodical publications, including Board Update, President’s Quarterly Report, and other newsletters and periodicals as they are developed.
  • Monitors internal and external sources (e.g., ICI memos and reports, news clips, studies, surveys, and legislative and regulatory releases) for material used to amplify Institute goals and initiatives in ICI publications aimed at various audiences.

Requirements

  • Strong, detail-oriented writing and editorial skills, including the ability to adapt material for multiple audiences and multiple channels, especially online channels.
  • Extensive experience with website content management and social media.
  • Solid understanding of coding, content management systems, and process management.
  • High degree of personal initiative and creativity.
  • Strong organizational skills to oversee production of a high volume of quality work within tight timeframes, often including multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to cooperate and coordinate with ICI staff at all levels on publications and projects.
  • Knowledge of legal, financial, and technical material related to fund industry issues, products, and services.
  • Ability to conceptualize visual themes and graphic presentations.
  • Familiarity with design and production processes.
  • Bachelor’s degree and five to seven years of communication, publishing, or journalism experience with heavy emphasis on writing and editing, leveraging online channels, preferably in the financial services industry; or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Fund industry experience desirable.

(Senior) Web Designer – job title based on experience/education,Investment Company Institute, Washington, DC

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Designs and builds high impact, visually appealing digital communications using a variety of graphics software applications and tools to further ICI objectives and communications themes based on intended audience, potential use, budget, and time frame allotted.
  • Contributes to the design group’s efforts to enhance ICI’s online offerings.
  • Develops strategies to support maintenance of ICI’s website relative to external communications goals.
  • Collaborate with Senior Director, project originator, and other staff to conceptualize appropriate design concepts and production alternatives.
  • Generate and manipulate graphic images, animations, audio, and video to enhance the ICI brand in multimedia applications.
  • Design and produce print and online publications in coordination with editorial group and project originators.
  • Provides input to Senior Director, Communications Design on strategies to improve quality of digital design and production.
  • Assist Senior Director, Communications Design and Design Director as needed.

 

Requirements

  • Knowledge and expertise in electronic design and production methods, web development, and graphic design principles.
  • Proven commitment to design excellence and continuous learning related to online and electronic graphic design.
  • Expertise with HTML, CSS, jQuery, JSP, CMS, and related software used in the building of online and digital communications (OpenText, Dreamweaver, Flash).
  • Technical knowledge of video editing software (Final Cut Studio, Motion).
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to produce a high volume of quality work within tight time frames.
  • Coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work with staff at all levels in a collaborative, cross-departmental environment.
  • High level of attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate high degree of personal initiative, especially with respect to problem solving.
  • Undergraduate degree in graphic design or related field preferred and minimum of 2+ years in website and digital design.
