This role is responsible for the development and execution of American Cruise Lines’ national and international PR program. In this role, you will facilitate effective message dissemination to key media in

support of American Cruise Lines’ brand positioning and marketing activities. This role has a high level of responsibility and works directly with the company’s leadership team and outside agencies.

 

American Cruise Lines is the largest cruise line in the United States. We are growing quickly, with three new luxury ships currently under construction. You will be the public face of the company and must

therefore be dynamic, persuasive, and creative in extending our message further than it has ever gone before.  A major part of the role includes media briefings and related activities at key industry tradeshows and events throughout the year. Additional duties include scheduling press briefings for executives, setting up press conferences, securing speaking/panel opportunities, and providing overall support at the tradeshow, including representation at the booth.

 

Additional responsibilities include:

 

  • Assist in development and implemention of Public Relations strategies (incorporating traditional and digital channels) which maintain a positive image of the company and build brand awareness
  • Develop and build positive relationships with media and industry partners in key markets
  • Work with industry organizations, particularly Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), to support proactive and reactive media relations and press opportunities, and to manage issues that may affect the cruising industry
  • Develop quality content, including all press materials (press releases, fact sheets, executive bios, etc.) as well as feature stories, newsletters, brochures, magazine copy, trend reports, destination guides, online materials, speeches and presentations
  • Stay on top of industry trends, shifts and competitor activity, and report as needed to the marketing and leadership team
  • Maintain Speaking and Awards program; identify new opportunities
  • Act as company spokesperson and serve as a key contact for media, industry partners and the community
  • Manage agencies that may be hired for special events or projects
  • Support social media marketing strategies by assisting in content curation
  • As noted above, conference/Tradeshow/Event management & on-site support; requires occasional travel
  • Monitor and track coverage; report coverage and PR activity as required by Director of Marketing

 

Desired Skills and Experience /Qualifications

 

  • 2-4 years of experience in Marketing, Public Relations or Communications
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications/PR or journalism
  • Experience in both corporate communications and agency setting a plus
  • Proven ability to create partnerships within industry and community; strong media relations experience, preferably in travel and hospitality
  • Excellent media networks in North America (traditional and non-traditional); existing relationships in related industry a plus
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Vocus, Cision or similar media monitoring and database tool
  • Ability to produce clear and persuasive content that is audience appropriate
  • Full embracement of new technologies, including database management and the ability to track results.

I.M. Systems Group (www.imsg.com), a contractor to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in Silver Spring, MD, seeks an individual to serve as a full time Communications and Policy Specialist to coordinate and promote the Marine Debris Division’s activities.  This individual will work with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Office of Response and Restoration’s (ORR – http://response.restoration.noaa.gov/) Marine Debris Division (MDD – http://marinedebris.noaa.gov/).  The position will be located at the ORR headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland.

 

The candidate will serve as a Communications and Policy Specialist for marine debris-related matters, supporting activities under the NOAA Marine Debris Division. This position will establish and coordinate a proactive communications strategy that builds awareness of the Marine Debris Division’s core capabilities and projects. Duties will also focus on program coordination and development through media relations, outreach materials, developing web based content and providing updates to social media.  Domestic travel may be required.

 

Job Duties:

  • Develop and disseminate print and online outreach materials such as brochures, fact sheets, reports, project summaries and news stories.
  • Draft presentations and speeches for the Marine Debris Division leadership and prepare briefing packets and press releases as needed.
  • Assist with maintenance and content development support for the website and affiliated web products including social media tools and blogs.
  • Respond to and coordinate media inquiries and events as needed.
  • Build and maintain relationships and effective communications within NOAA and with other government agencies, private groups and not-for-profit organizations to leverage information and identify opportunities for collaboration.
  • Provide clear and concise responses to information requested from NOAA, the Administration, Congress and external partners.
  • Assist with legislative briefings.
  • Fulfill timely communications-related requests from the Marine Debris Division Chief.
  • Present information about the Marine Debris Division at conferences and meetings, and outreach events as needed.
  • Work with field staff to identify and support local communications needs.
  • Synthesize information and copy edit materials.

 

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree with several years experience in a communications/outreach capacity. Legislative experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Familiarity with a variety of communication strategies and methods such as developing written materials/briefings, press releases, website development, brochure development, layouts, etc.
  • Experience translating scientific information for public consumption and copy editing documents.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of individuals and within teams.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects, be responsive to deadlines, and shift priorities as needed.

At 0400 LT, the crew members emerged from the safe room and found that five crew members were kidnapped. After negotiations, on 03.06.2015 the five abducted crew members were released safely.
