Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, marketing communications, or related field required.

Experience working within a medical, scientific or academic organization is preferred. Experience communicating medical, technical or scientific concepts is also preferred.

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at the American University in Cairo invites applications for a full time tenure-track faculty position or professor of practice faculty position in Multimedia Journalism and Mass Communication, in the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy.
The successful candidate will prepare students to work across platforms and in various professional positions. Candidates should be able to demonstrate fluency in digital storytelling and a vision for the future of news. Ideal candidates should also have experience in some combination of data journalism and visualization, programming, mobile and emerging platforms, entrepreneurship and/or multimedia video production. Responsibilities include undergraduate teaching and may include teaching of graduate classes, advising of students, providing of service and engaging in scholarship. * Good judgment

- Partners with the Marketing senior management leaders in developing, executing, and managing comprehensive communications strategies and initiatives to effectively inform, engage, and motivate targeted audiences with compelling messages.
- Evaluates stakeholders’ objectives to determine effective messaging strategies.
- Partners with the Marketing senior management leaders in developing and executing communications plans and campaigns for key strategic initiatives.
- Collaborates with stakeholders to determine scope, messaging, audience, timeline, budget, and accurate mix (e.g., video, print, digital, etc.) of communications’ deliverables.
- Develops and reviews communications to ensure consistent messages that are targeted to the proper audience and align with the organization’s brand, standards, and strategic direction.
- Writes, edits, and proofreads the content for a variety of platforms (e.g., press releases, sales messages, blog entries, social media posts, quarterly publications, email, etc.).
- Serves as a liaison to support brand and group communications, ensure consistency, and maintain brand standards.
- Measures the effectiveness of communications and channels on an ongoing basis and provides recommendations to amend, as appropriate.
Vendor, Internal, and External Relationships
- Develops and maintains positive business relationships with associates, vendors, agencies, media, stakeholders, franchise partners, and industry professionals which fosters an environment for mutual respect, understanding, and support.
- Interacts with internal stakeholders to provide consultation on communications, PR, and related topics.
- Establishes and manages PR agency and vendor relationships (e.g., print shops, video team, etc.) to ensure brand consistency, to manage expectations (e.g., high level of service, accountability, etc.), and to maximize cost efficiency, quality, timeliness, and responsiveness.
- Interfaces with industry, media, and professional organizations to increase awareness of the brand/organization, to expand networking opportunities, and to remain knowledgeable of communications and PR strategies.
- Researches industry communications and public relations trends and best practices to assess the organization’s performance.
- Manages and grows relationships with media, key influencers, and industry professionals.
Experience, Education, and Certifications:
- 5+ years of experience in media/public relations and communications preferred
- Retail, restaurant, food, or beverage experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, business, marketing, advertising, or other related field of study preferred
Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to think and pitch stories on their feet
- Ability to communicate complex concepts in clear concise language; to demonstrate active listening while engaging others; and to establish, implement, and clearly communicate strategies that align with business needs and objectives to gain buy-in from stakeholder
- Ability to develop and maintain positive business relationships (e.g., senior management, stakeholders, other departments, etc.) and foster an environment of mutual respect, understanding, trust, and support
- Ability to anticipate and respond to the needs of stakeholders (e.g., internal and external customers, etc.) in a timely manner
- Ability to adapt and adjust planned work through analyzing work demands, competing priorities, and tight deadlines; and to understand the most effective and efficient means to accomplish tasks within the parameters of the organizational structure, processes, systems, and policies

- Ability to travel overnight approximately 20% annually.
