The Silver Inkwell Awards Gala is your chance to celebrate the achievements of contest winners and to gather as a community to network, share, and acknowledge our industry needs, expertise, and trends. Similar to TED Talks, three elite communicators from the DC area will speak for five to ten minutes about relevant communication issues. The Huffington Post currently has editions in four other countries and three different languages, with increased expansion on the way.
The Huffington Post was launched on May 9, 2005 and was acquired by AOL in February, 2011. In 2012, The Huffington Post was the first online-only daily news outlet to win a Pulitzer Prize. The company also recently launched HuffPost Live, a streaming video network with 60 hours of programming every week.

Position Summary
As a member of the senior management team, the Global Head of Corporate Communications will develop and lead all communications and public relations strategies and activities. This includes all public company communications; national and international consumer, trade and digital media; as well as overall implementation of communications plans, initiatives and programs that help advance the company’s business and reputation. A highly visible leadership role reporting directly to Arianna Huffington, the Global Head of Corporate Communications will lead a Communications team, providing creativity and innovative thinking to the opportunities and challenges at The Huffington Post.
The Global Head of Corporate Communications is responsible for driving the company’s message to key constituencies, including the media, consumers, employees and key industry and social media influencers. They are also responsible for thought leadership programs, event coordination, speaking engagements, reputation management, crisis communications, public affairs communications and internal communications.
This position will oversee the company’s global corporate communications function, leading a team of four communications professionals as well as agency resources This leader may also work in cooperation with broader AOL corporate communication efforts as appropriate.
This position is based in NYC.
Principal Responsibilities
Business Press: This position is responsible for leading, developing and executing the company’s communications strategy with the business press with a goal of increasing the positive visibility of The Huffington Post in the world’s leading outlets. Given its unique position as part of the press, The Huffington Post considers its relationship with other outlets a top priority and expects world-class responsiveness.
Executive Placement: The Global Head of Corporate Communications is responsible for implementing executive placement strategies including speaking engagements, profiles, OpEds, and other tactics to successfully position Huffington Post executives as visionaries and thought leaders across the industry.
Consumer Communications: This position leads all communications strategies to drive consumer adoption and use of The Huffington Post. The Global Head of Corporate Communications will be responsible for positioning Huffington Post’s offerings – including growing mobile offerings – in the consumer press on a local, national and international level. This function also maximizes industry analyst relationships as appropriate to provide necessary third-party validation of new products (like HuffPost Live) and feature enhancements that roll out frequently, due to the company’s iterative style.
Trade Communications: The Global Head of Corporate Communications is responsible for developing and executing strategies that secure significant and impactful coverage in key trade and digital outlets with a goal of positioning Huffington Post as the company to work with for: engaged audience and community reach, innovative solutions in digital display advertising, and high quality content creation. They should position HuffPost as the leading digital media company for the 21st Century.
Events: The Global Head of Corporate Communications oversees all internal and external events, both domestically and internationally. This function works collaboratively with internal stakeholders to determine sponsorship opportunities and then defines and executes strategic activations that align to the company’s goals.
Crisis Communications: This function anticipates and prepares for crisis by working throughout the organization to understand the types of issues and situations that can have negative public consequences and either pre-empt them or prepare executives to deal with them in the most appropriate way. The Global Head of Corporate Communications will ensure that global crisis communications process and procedures for the company are maintained.
International Communications: The Global Head of Corporate Communications oversees all global PR functions and agencies, applying corporate standards and messaging around the world with a goal of message consistency. In addition, this leader will be responsible for driving all launches in new countries in the months ahead.
Measurement: Earned media is a critical driver of the Huffington Post. The Global Head of Corporate Communications will regularly measure and report on communications effectiveness to ensure that available resources are used prudently and cost effectively.
Knowledge, Skills and Key Leadership Characteristics
Education: Successful candidates will likely have a BS/BA and ideally also have an advanced degree in Business, Marketing or Communications.
Experience: This individual is a world-class communications professional. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10+ years of senior corporate communications experience in public companies engaged in global, highly competitive market dynamics. The candidate will have successfully led a multi-functional communications and corporate relations function bringing broad based experience that combines media and public company experience with some tenure within an agency environment. As a result, there is a high level of focus on the ability to deliver results on-time and on-budget.

• Communicator: A strong communicator, both written and oral, with an ability to use those skills to drive change, influence outcomes and gain the confidence of others.
• Innovator: Ability to bring new thinking and ideas to the communications challenges and opportunities as well as utilize sophisticated, best-in-class communications programs, practices and technologies. Flexibility is a key component of this role.
• Believer: Believes in the Huffington Post’s mission and strategy and is the company champion internally and externally.
• Entrepreneurial: Passion for taking novel projects from concept to completion, with little or no precedence.
• Not stuck in tradition: Because it’s only seven years old, The Huffington Post is not bound by history, or fixated on “this is the way we do it.” The company and its leadership encourage creativity, novelty, and the desire to be something completely new.

Five robbers in a boat approached and boarded an anchored bulk carrier via the anchor chain and broke into the forward store.
