I created a Facebook page, The Breakroom, as a place for like-minded communications professionals to chat, network, share stories, get advice — in a less formal way than LinkedIn. I am not a consultant or corporation trying to sell anything. I just wanted to create a less formal place where I could bounce ideas, hear stories, etc. I’d love for you to join us there (https://www.facebook.com/MeetMeInTheBreakroom). Feel free to drop me a note if you have any questions or comments.

(Ned responds: There are several factors that have an impact on the quantity of jobs in JOTW from week to week. One depends on how many people send to me in a given week. Another is a how much time I can devote to looking for jobs to post, and assembling the newsletter. I’ve been on vacation and I’ve been very busy with some writing projects, so I have not had much time to devote to JOTW.)

Hi Ned —
I’m contacting you regarding a role that’s been open less than a week, but is exceptional. The client wishes to remain anonymous, but I’ve included the basics and a way to get in touch with me for anyone who wishes to learn more. If you agree it’s a role that would be good to share, I’ve included text below that captures the opportunity and would appreciate your posting it.
Nancy
Nancy S. Voith, APR
Managing Director – Talent Practice
CRA, Inc.
Radnor, PA
13.) Executive Director of Internal Communication, high-tech company, offered through CRA, Inc., Washington, DC area
D.C.-AREA HIGH-TECH INTERNAL COMMUNICATION EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION
Just this week, a client headquartered in the D.C. area has asked us to help them source an Executive Director of Internal Communication. The client is a very interesting, high-tech + analytics, high-growth $1B global public company with three primary SBUs and a strong connection to the federal government. The role would work very closely with the VP of Marketing, the CEO and the other C-suite business leaders.
As this Executive Director will be a key player to help senior leaders spearhead change through the organization, the CEO has named it the most critical position to fill. In the last five years, the company has doubled in revenue and employee size. Considered an IPO “darling” of the mid-2000s, the organization has been growing aggressively through acquisitions and organically; and that rate is expected to continue. Recently, the company’s future focus and impressive history landed it on Forbes’ annual “25 Fastest-Growing Tech Companies” list. Currently, the company is in the midst of a strategy and culture transformation; and ensuring employees are enlightened and emboldened to welcome that direction makes this hire a top priority. Culturally, the organization abhors bureaucracy and values nimbleness, smarts and an intuitive ability.
Candidates with at least ten years of internal/organizational communications experience, a C-suite interaction background, demonstrated ability to spearhead transformational change and high tech/analytics/telecom industry experience are preferred. This role is ideal for a high-energy, mature, “driver” personality who wants to create a strategic internal communication function from the ground up and, simultaneously, can be hands-on to ensure quality output. The Executive Director will lead a small team and have responsibility for all areas of employee and executive communication – strategy, planning, infrastructure, content, process and delivery.
The company is willing to relocate for the right candidate, so suggestions don’t have to be based in the local D.C. area. And, the compensation package is compelling.
Feel free to share this email with communication colleagues who might benefit from such a role or would want to learn more.
Interested colleagues should forward their resumes to me at nvoith@crainc.com with the subject line: D.C. HIGH-TECH IC EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION. As always, I’m happy to answer further questions and provide more detail for those who are interested.
