External Relations Associate

 

ClimateWorks is seeking a skilled and motivated External Relations Associate to play a key role in support of the essential functions of the department. The External Relations team is primarily responsible for corporate communications, development, and funder stewardship. In addition to leading ClimateWorks’ communications and development efforts, the department also supports efforts to generate funder interest in climate mitigation generally, whether or not funding flows through ClimateWorks. The External Relations department works closely with ClimateWorks’ executive team and program staff, and coordinates closely with regional and foundation partners.

Reporting to the Director of External Relations, the Associate will research funders, develop briefing materials, contribute to efforts to mobilize additional resources in support of climate change mitigation, and implement processes and systems to manage relationships with and accountability to funders. The Associate will be responsible for aligning and supporting projects of both the development and communications functions of the team, especially in regard to project management and implementation, file and database maintenance, prospect research, drafting of general development correspondence and other written materials, and compiling metrics. (S)he may interact with multiple internal and external stakeholders, and therefore must be professional and poised, and have good judgment in dealing with a broad spectrum of activities and situations. The ideal candidate will be technologically savvy and have excellent communication and organizational skills, an interest in addressing climate change, and experience working with donors, clients, or other high-level external stakeholders.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

The External Relations Associate will perform the following and other duties as assigned:

 

Funder research and relationship management

 

  • Interface with the Strategic Planning team to track climate mitigation funding landscape.
  • Research and/or update information related to funders other than ClimateWorks’ existing foundation partners, interfacing with consultants as needed.
  • Prepare briefing materials ahead of funders meetings and presentations.
  • Maintain/update core information and presentation materials.
  • Track relationships with key funders and prospects, in close coordination with executives and programs teams.
  • Maintain good relationships with ClimateWorks’ partners and develop/implement collaborative mechanisms to track funder relations across the network.

 

Pipeline and database administration

 

  • Support external relations reporting in alignment with organizational roles and goals.
  • Manage pipeline (calendar for proposals, expected payments, reports due) for the team.
  • Update/administer all information in central database (Salesforce).
  • Track and report on substantive funder engagement.
  • Produce reports and maintain quality assurance of the system.
  • Ensure that funder files are organized and current.

 

Funder reporting and correspondence

 

  • Interface with Strategic Planning team to gather grant and funding information.
  • Update core reports quarterly. Customize and lead process for individual/core funder reporting.
  • With support, manage funder reporting process in support of incubated organizations and ClimateWorks-managed programs.
  • Implement same-day acknowledgement process for all grants received.
  • Support effective organizational relationships with funders, including through direct communications with funders to ensure appropriate grant stewardship and reporting.
  • With Associate Director of External Relations, support funder reporting process, working with the Program and Finance teams to compile, edit, and submit reports on all incoming grants.

 

Events, outreach, and communications

 

  • Support event planning and manage/track key external relations events as needed.
  • Follow up with event attendees, ensuring optimal return on investment from events planned.
  • As needed, review and edit external relations materials, and update the website.
  • Ensure team calendar and intranet site are updated with high quality, timely, and relevant content.

 

Qualifications

 

  • The successful candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred
  • 3+ years of relevant experience including fundraising or business development experience
  • Experience working with executive and senior-level staff to manage complex projects
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a proven track record of establishing and maintaining relationships with high level stakeholders such as donors or clients
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills
  • High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), proficiency with Google systems (Drive and Sites) a plus
  • Experience working with collaboration systems (intranet), with a strong interest in exploring ways to improve the efficacy and efficiency of such systems using state-of-the-art technology
  • Ability to keep calm under pressure, prioritize, and multi-task
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion, as well as an understanding of donor confidentiality issues
  • Experience developing and/or managing databases, experience with Salesforce preferred
  • Flexibility and tolerance for ambiguity
  • Patience, poise, and confidence in interacting with diverse personalities, and ability to motivate others to complete tasks on time and in accordance with established protocol
  • Ability to work well with a team and to interact with people from different cultural backgrounds
  • Development or communications experience related to climate change valuable
  • International experience a plus

Maintains a clean and sanitary worksite that will be utilized; wears required uniform and safety materials as needed.

 

Attends and participates in professional group meetings; maintains awareness of new trends and innovations in the field of Veterinary Phlebotomy.

While underway, a skiff increased speed and came alongside a bulk carrier. Alert crew spotted the skiff and informed bridge. Master raised alarm, announced on PA and alerted the crew. Two robbers with the help of a hook climbed up to the ship’s rails but retreated when they say the crew alertness. Singapore VTIS informed.

 

074-15   02.05.2015: 2130 LT: Posn: 02:14N – 101:56E (Around 11nm SSE of Tanjung Tuan, Malaysia), Malacca Straits.

Eight persons armed with guns and long knives boarded a tanker carrying gasoil enroute from Singapore to Myanmar. They held the third officer at gunpoint, took control of the bridge, locked the Master in a cabin and all other crew members in the ship’s hospital, and hijacked the tanker. They damaged all communication equipment and anchored in position 02:19.3N – 101:40.4E (around 13nm SSW of Port Dickson, Malaysia), Malacca Straits. Another cargo vessel came alongside and the cargo was transferred. Before leaving the tanker they stole ship’s and crew cash, Iridium phone, and crew personal belongings. All crew safe. Master managed to inform the Owners. The Malaysian Authority boarded the tanker enroute to Singapore for investigation.

 

073-15   01.05.2015: 0410 LT: Posn: 01:43N – 101:24E, Dumai Anchorage, Indonesia.

Duty motorman onboard an anchored product tanker noticed a small boat with five persons roaming around the vessel. After a while the persons attempted to board the vessel from the poop deck. Alarm raised and crew mustered. Seeing the crew alertness, the persons jumped into the water and escaped. Nothing is stolen.

 

072-15   15.04.2015: 2300 LT: Posn: 19:36.52N – 072:59.82W, Baie de Port-a-Piment, Haiti.

Around 10-15 robbers armed with machetes, clubs and sticks in a boat came alongside an anchored yacht. They were violent and assaulted the skipper and his wife. They ransacked the yacht, stole personal belongings, navigational equipment, properties and escaped. Mayday calls on VHF was transmitted but no response received. The following morning, locals assisted the couple and informed the police who are investigating the incident. The couple needed hospitalisation due to the severe beating. The skipper’s fingers and arms were broken and his wife was severely bruised.
