Job Description:
The Director-Media Relations supports the organization’s strategic communications plan by developing and implementing national, regional and local media relations programs focused on the research and clinical programs and achievements of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Serves as the institution’s primary contact to the news media and ensures the planning, direction, implementation and measurement of strategic media relations efforts. Develops and implements a national media communications strategy to increase the visibility of St. Jude subject matter experts, and directs a media team charged with enhancing St. Jude’s international reputation as a world-class research institution. Collaborates with ALSAC, establishes and maintains strong, positive relationships with outside public relations firms, news media, and other external contacts to impact the institution’s reputation. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the organization. (CB)
Job Qualifications:
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, marketing communications, or related field required.
Master’s degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Ten (10) years of experience in communications with five (5) years of experience directing national media relations efforts required
Experience working within a medical, scientific or academic organization is preferred. Experience communicating medical, technical or scientific concepts is also preferred.
OTHER CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Professional accreditation by PRSA and IABC preferred.
