Social Media Specialist, ZERO TO THREE (ZTT), Washington, DC

Summary

The Social Media Specialist is responsible for generating and coordinating the social media strategy for ZERO TO THREE (ZTT). This position will be responsible for creating and delivering social media messaging designed to improve, clarify or disseminate ZTT and early education. He/she will also provide input, planning and execution on annual, quarterly, monthly and daily social media communications. This individual will help to implement strategies and plans for and publicity of ZERO TO THREE products and services, including positioning of communications and branding and increasing awareness of issues of Early Childhood to multiple audiences (policymakers, media and parents).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

– Coordinates and implements social media strategies for the organization and specific departments in alignment with communication priorities.
– Helps track social media outreach; Researches coverage and early education industry trends. Conducts extensive social media outreach and pitching.
– The position originates and develops information for the media and the general public; arranges and participates in online interviews and social chat opportunities. Media relations responsibilities include:
o Pitching joint social media initiatives and story ideas;
o Developing social media messaging on relevant breaking news;
o Cultivating relationships with key online influencers.
– Develops regular editorial calendar and the content for social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Blogs and others to be determined.
– Responsible for monitoring and responding to postings, comments and inquiries.
– Works with digital marketing team and ZTT departments on developing ideas, content, and implementation of social media vehicles like memes, infographics, and graphics to promote events, products and public pieces.
– Perform other communications-related projects as assigned.

Skills and Experience

– Minimum of 5 years of experience in journalism, communications or public relations in a writing or editing function.
– Bilingual (Spanish Speaking) preferred
– Excellent writing skills.
– Demonstrated understanding of how to plan, communicate and implement effective social communication strategies.
– Demonstrated knowledge of social media research.
– Demonstrated knowledge of social media platforms and strategy.
– Demonstrated ability to work with Capitol Hill, corporate and media partners.
– Ability to use independent discretion and judgment.
– Ability to work under deadline pressure and to write with a high level of accuracy
– Understanding of the non-profit environment.
– Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
– Excellent oral and presentation skills.
– Excellent and proven skills in creative thinking and writing.
– Exceptional writing and editing ability.
– Knowledge of Associated Press style and standards.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or related field.

Physical Requirements

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is frequently required to use finger dexterity as well as sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard and be capable of reading a computer screen. Also may need to remain seated for long periods of time, have the ability to perform repetitive motions, grasp objects, including a writing instrument, kneel, communicate verbally and hear well enough to detect nuances and receive detailed information. The employee may be required to walk, push or pull objects, bend, squat, reach, or stand. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision for preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, and expansive reading.

Working Conditions

The work conditions described here is representative of those an employee encounters while performing this job. The employee is expected to travel and will be exposed to outside environmental conditions during those times. The incumbent typically works indoors in a heated and air-conditioned office, with a mixture of natural, incandescent and fluorescent light with low to moderate noise levels.
