JOTW 31-2017
July 31, 2017
This is JOTW newsletter number 1,713
“They say I’m old-fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast!”
– Dr. Seuss
This edition of JOTW comes to you from Springfield, Virginia.
*** Welcome to the JOTW network.
This is the award-winning free Job of the Week e-mail networking newsletter for professional communicators, dedicated to the positive unanticipated consequences of networking, or as we call it, “nedworking.” JOTW is a cooperative service. That means JOTW relies on the contributions of its members, like you. We share job opportunities, news and information about the job market, as well as swapping stories about life’s peculiarities. We connect you with others who are like you, and together we help each other. What a concept. Did I mention it’s free?
*** To submit a job for sharing on JOTW, please provide the job title, organization or company, and location and send it to Ned at lundquist989@cs.com. Provide a link or contact info so people can check out your listing or follow up if interested.
JOTW is sent out on Mondays by email with a list the jobs posted in the full newsletter, which is posted online at www.nedsjotw.com. This is designed to keep the size of the emails to a more manageable length.
*** The position descriptions and or follow up information on links to the jobs can be found at www.nedsjotw.com.
*** Posting a job is free. Recruiters can submit up to three jobs for free. Each job listing may be posted once in the newsletter for free
I request that you do not send pdf files that I have to copy and reformat. I prefer you provide your very brief job description in an email rather than an enclosure. Please limit the size of your position descriptions (generally to 500 words or less). “Can’t Wait” blast email priority listings are $300, and “Top Job” placement is $100. Just send to me at lundquist989@cs.com.
*** This is a cooperative service. It relies on your participation and contribution. As you receive the benefit of this free newsletter, you should also send in jobs you learn about. This is especially the case when there are job listings in the companies that you work for.
Be advised that I am transitioning away from Topica and relocating the list with Google Groups.
*** To sign up for JOTW’s new Google Groups list, send an email to Ned at lundquist989@cs.com and request to join the new listerv.
*** To change your email address for Topica delivery of JOTW, use the unsubscribe button at the bottom of your newsletter, and then subscribe with your new address at: .
*** This week’s Can’t Wait postings:
None this week.
Can’t Wait jobs: These jobs are forwarded to the entire list as soon as they are received, and do not wait for the Monday newsletter, and are posted prominently on the JOTW website. Then they are posted first in the weekly JOTW newsletter. Can’t Wait postings cost $300. Contact Ned at lundquist989@cs.com.
*** This week’s Top Job:
None this week.
*** Top Jobs: Stand above the rest. Your job can be right here, at the top of the weekly JOTW newsletter. Top job placement costs $100 per job per week. To be on top, contact Ned at lundquist989@cs.com.
*** If you find out about a job opportunity in communications, send it to me (lundquist989@cs.com), and I’ll share it with the JOTW network.
*** The JOTW network is built upon cooperative principles. Share, and reap the benefits. And it feels good to help others. I call it selfish altruism. But this also means you need to contribute.
*** Listing a position is free. Top jobs placement is $100, and a “Can’t Wait” posting is $300.

5.) Public Relations Manager, Autodesk, Boston, Mass.
Autodesk makes software for people who make things. If you’ve ever driven a high-performance car, admired a towering skyscraper, used a smartphone, or watched a great film, chances are you’ve experienced what millions of Autodesk customers are doing with our software. Autodesk gives you the power to make anything.
This is an opportunity to join Autodesk’s global public relations team with a specific focus on the success of the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) business line. We have a lot happening, and we need your help.
Builders relied on Autodesk’s design and construction software to create the greatest modern achievements in the built world around us– the Shanghai Tower, New York’s One World Trade Center, stadiums everywhere like the new home to the Minnesota Vikings, airports around the world, and so much more.
We are at the heart of major technology trends like virtual and augmented reality, the Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning, robotics, drones, reality capture, and an endless array of just plain cool stuff that architects, engineers and builders are employing to house and transport people globally You will help identify, develop and execute industry stories together with our business leaders, our customers and business partners and share those stories through owned, earned and social media.
You will help identify and bring to life exciting stories found in our Boston BUILD Space, which serves as one of Autodesk’s global Technology Centers. The Autodesk BUILD Space is a powerful place to influence the future of making things for the built world around us, and working in such close proximity to industry futurists is extraordinary. The 34,000 square foot space is a fantastic canvas for illustrating where the industry is headed, surrounded by entrepreneurs, robots and big machines. Besides day-to-day media and influencer relations, you will fully engage in the development and execution of a high-caliber PR program for Autodesk’s annual customer conference, Autodesk University in Las Vegas, where top industry media rub elbows with more than 10,000 of Autodesk’s biggest fans, customers and partners.
You are not expected to know everything on day one, but you are expected to have a ‘let’s do this’ spirit and be willing to contribute hands on right out of the gate.
Responsibilities will include:
- Develop, implement and report progress on PR elements including messaging, news announcements, digital social media content, press/analyst presentations, user references, contributed articles, and influencer events
- Partner with product management and marketing staff to create external communications content that will help meet or exceed business and marketing goals
- Collaborate with the Autodesk Boston BUILD Space team to identify media opportunities leveraging this unique workshop for the Future of Making Things in the AEC industry
- Contribute to global news flow and collaborate with country communications team members around the world
- Assist with PR event and tradeshow coordination

- Demonstrates strong writing skills for all materials – blogs, press releases, responses to media requests, and routine business communications.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Can-do attitude a must and willing to roll up your sleeves and do all kinds of work. While there is always exciting and fun storytelling to do in a dynamic and collaborative environment, you must be willing to do some of the more menial tasks such as collecting and reporting on coverage, logistics planning and executing events, etc.
Autodesk is proud to be an equal opportunity employer and considers all qualified applicants without regard to race, gender, disability, veteran status or other protected category.
Autodesk will consider for employment all applicants with criminal histories consistent with the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance and any other state, federal or local law.

A well-established advocacy and lobbying organization with a focus on international affairs is looking to engage an enthusiastic, early career professional with some communications and events-management experience, in a six-month-long, on-site assignment. This role will support the organization’s internal Speakers Bureau team, as it prepares for an annual conference that will take place during the first week of March 2018.
The conference, which will be held in Washington, DC, welcomes more than fifteen-thousand participants annually, from all 50 states and all over the world. Speakers include world leaders, influential dignitaries, practical policy experts and respected academics.
Brainstorm Creative Resources has supported this client for more than ten years and we have helped them identify many amazing people for a wide variety of full-time, temporary and project-oriented roles. We can provide plenty of additional details regarding the employer, to the most well qualified applicants.
While this position is currently defined as “temporary,” and we are not actively offering it as a “temporary-to-permanent” transition opportunity, we can share that our client his hired temporary Brainstorm Creative Resources employees into full-time positions in years past.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop materials for on-site speaker operations and the Speaker Concierge area
- Craft written materials to support the successful execution of breakout sessions
- Coordinate a portion of the Speakers Bureau’s logistical operations for a specific venue

- Can quickly adapt to change, think on your feet and problem solve to meet emerging challenges

- Ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining confidentiality and working relationships with colleagues and partners
- Fully competent in the Microsoft Office Suite
- The ability to quickly learn basic functions of computer applications relating to event and financial management
HOURS / LOCATION:
We are announcing this opportunity on July 10, 2017 and we are ideally looking for someone to start working on or around September 5, 2017. We can offer some flexibility for the assignment to start a bit sooner than September 5, or possibly up to two weeks later.
We are only interested in receiving applications and inquiries from individuals who can work:
(1) In a full-time, temporary capacity;
(2) a regular M-F, 9am-6pm schedule;
(3) on-site at our client’s workplace near Union Station in NW, DC;
(4) starting on/around September 5, 2017;
(5) continuing through the first week of April.
Individuals who can only work part-time or who are interested in working from home should not apply. Also, there will be a requirement to work some Saturdays during February and March. Our client’s workplace is easily accessible via car, Metrorail and Metrobus. We will provide details regarding parking options to individuals whom we schedule for interviews with the employer.
RATE:
We are suggesting a pay rate range of between $20 and $25/hour, which we believe is in-line with the position requirements. These rates, when annualized, are the basis for salaries ranging from $40K to $50K. The actual rate offered will be commensurate with your experience and will be largely based on the following factors: credentials as detailed in your resume, your interview experiences with Brainstorm Creative Resources and/or our client, and quality of reference providers and references provided.
TERMS:
This engagement is structured differently than most temporary assignments. Instead of being paid only for the hours you work (which is a staffing industry norm), you will paid for working 40 hours each week — even if you actually work fewer hours. This policy extends to all days that the employer’s office is officially closed for vacation and also to personal and sick days within reason, but not to long strings of days when you might be away from work for personal reasons. It’s worth mentioning that the organization’s offices are typically closed for the entire week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. So you will likely have up to one full week of paid vacation over the holidays. The engagement also offers a limited overtime differential. Overtime will be calculated under a formula that indicates different rates each week, depending on how many hours were worked during that week. We’ll gladly provide documentation regarding the overtime policy and explain the specifics of it to the most well qualified applicants.
