*** One Paragraph Pitch:

Hi, Ned.

I'm hoping you will run one of your “commercials” for one of my former

students who has been mainly a mom for a few years and now wants to

expand her freelance writing and editing work.

Sara Palmer is a 1995 graduate of the University of Indianapolis and one

of the best students I have had in my 28 years of teaching. She was

editor of the school paper and worked at the American Legion magazine

after graduating. She has taken some time off to be a full-time Mom, but

her little girl is almost four and she has been doing some freelance

media relations, editing and writing for a firm in California and has

decided she has time now to increase her freelance work. With computers,

she can have clients from all over the world, so I thought your JOTW was

a perfect place to tell people she is available. Anyone wanting her

services can contact her by e-mail at: the3palmers@sbcglobal.net. I know

she will do a great job writing, editing, news release writing,

articles for company or other publications, etc.

Thanks, Ned!

Hello Ned:

You ran my ad and I got a job the same week. Oh how I WISH I could say

it was because of the one paragraph pitch, but I think it was timing.

Again, thanks so much for allowing me to pitch myself. I did reconnect

with at least one person, so that was a good thing.

Good luck on Thursday with the “Pimp My Job” event!

*** JOTW Rock and Roll Trivia Quiz:

While this artist was part of a pre-punk underground-breaking group, he

is best known for his solo career. As a youth, he received

electroconvulsive therapy to discourage his homosexual feelings. During

his career he has worked with musicians such as J. J. Cale, Steve Howe,

Rick Wakeman, David Bowie and Mick Ronson, and has been categorized as

“Glam Rock.”

Never mainstream, one of his double albums was nothing but feedback (by

placing guitars in front of big speakers, the sound would vibrate the

strings) played at different speeds. One side of the double LP ended

with a closed 1.8-second loop that repeated itself until you picked up

the needle.

He still tours, with gigs this month in NYC with his trio.

*** Off with the shoes:

Ned,

Thanks so much for the laughs on April Fools' Day. After months of job

hunting, it's sometimes difficult to keep spirits high. Your March 32nd

edition salves the spirit. One job on that list, in particular landed a

little close to reality. That, or a real job could have easily made it,

(other than the Strip Poker Tournament of Champions for ESPN, of

course). Either way, both foolish and bona fide, made me giggle.

Thanks, again!

Laura McGinnis

(I have a full house. You lose. Off with the shoes.)

Thus began a rather short night at the Amish Monster Jam Buggy Pull.

*** L-O-L!!!!

After having been recently laid-off on 2/18; you've provided a MUCH

needed laugh!!! With family having resided in Massapequa, NY; and as a

Va. Tech grad, I found #'s 7.) & 31.) ESPECIALLY hilarious.

Thanks again, and for ALL you do with the JOTW.

Best,

Saj

It's just one small way I can serve humanity. Yourself included.

*** What did I do?

Hey Ned,

Love the Blago entry – did you hear about his one-day, guest DJ stint on

WLS radio last week? No joke – seriously. He's still spouting the “poor

pity me, I got railroaded because I wanted to help the citizens of

Illinois” BS. He just won't go away! (And don't blame me, I voted

against him for Congress when I lived in his district, and against him

both times as governor).

Deb

*** Face flushed with embarrassment:

Hi Ed,

Thanks for this. I almost forgot, and then I saw “Editor, Urinal

Journal.”

Best,

*** Dude:

Dude —

I think you seriously have way too much time on your hands. Oil-of-Otay

in Buckwheat, Indiana? That's hysterical! But, I can do without the porn

site.

Beth

*** Where's Buckwheat?

Really? Did you look at this website Ned? I only looked because I had

never

heard of Buckwheat, IN (I was raised in Indiana).

26.) Marketing Communications, Oil of Oh-Tay, Buckwheat, Indiana

www.womenhaters.com/rascals.jobs.marcom

Not sure that this is what you want on JOTW.

Best,

Maureen

(Have you ever watched the Little Rascals?)

Yeah…I got that but the web site was well…lets say a “girls gone

wild site” I got it April fools on the Buckwheat etc…but the

website…ok so maybe it's not my sense of humor…but I think any woman

click on that site would be offended a bit! M

(Actually, I hadn't noticed. Of course it was totally inappropriate. I

made all the links up, however. I didn't bother to actually check them

to see if they were possibly a live site. Who knew one would be a porn

site? Who knew somebody would actually click on those links? BTW,

Buckwheat, Indiana is just down Alfalfa Creek from Fort Stymie.)

I was following the joke but as you said who knew…but the question is

how did you made up link become womanhaters? Very weird.

Oh well.

Best,

Maureen

(If you know the Little Rascals, then you know they band together to

form the He-Man Woman haters Club. Only Alfalfa can't resist Darla.

HEARTS ARE THUMPS – 04/03/1937

It's Valentine's Day, and the boys decide they don't want anything to do

with it, forming “The He-Man Woman-Haters' Club.” Almost immediately,

Darla passes by and winks at Alfalfa, who drops the club like a hot

potato and follows her for a picnic lunch. While Alfalfa pushes Darla on

the swing, Spanky and Buckwheat replace the cheese in Alfalfa's sandwich

with bar soap, and the cream in the cream puffs with liquid soap. Not

wanting to offend Darla, Alfalfa eats all of it. In the classroom, he is

summoned to sing a song for the class, which is punctuated with bubbles

from Alfalfa's mouth. Alfalfa sings “Let Me Call You Sweetheart.”

MAIL AND FEMALE – 11/13/1937

Spanky has called the boys of the neighborhood together for a meeting.

Upset that they weren't invited to the MacGillicudy girls' party, he

proposes that they form a He-Man Woman Haters' Club and nominates

Alfalfa as president. Alfalfa, meanwhile, is not at the clubhouse, but

busy writing a love letter to Darla, giving it to Buckwheat and Porky to

deliver. When he gets to the clubhouse and learns of his new duties (and

of the paddle that will be used on all misbehaving members), he hurries

over to Darla's house to retrieve the note. Buckwheat and Porky return,

and let the boys know where Alfalfa's gone, so Spanky and the

paddle-wielding Spike head over to Darla's. Once there, they can't find

Alfalfa, but instead find Darla's cousin Amelia, who is actually

Alfalfa. He/she flirts with the boys and finds that they, too, are

unwilling to abide by the club's rules. )

*** Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me eight times.:

After 8 years, you would think I would remember there's an April Fools

Day JOTW. You get me almost every year!

Debbie Friez

*** Incoming:

You haven't lost your touch, Ned. One of my favorites is your spoof of a

Saddam Hussein speech that you penned in the middle of the night during

Desert Shield….

Cheers!

Brian

(I still have that speech. I remember handing it to a CNN producer and

she was about to fax it to Atlanta before we told her it wasn't legit.

We had a good watch team during the Desert Storm OSD PA night shift, and

we ate well, thanks to the networks' catering excess. Teaching CNN

correspondents to play bar dice and bringing in a few hockey sticks and

making some makeshift pucks from crushed coke cans helped pass the time

between mine strikes and scud attacks.)

*** Leakage:

Ned:

If I might paraphrase the late Buckwheat, your March 32nd issue for 2009

is “Most Oh-tay”

I'm still wiping my eyes and checking for leakage after a bout of

ROFLMAO.

BTW, in case JOTWers are wondering where to get the “Spawn Till You Die”

t-shirt, they can shop here for at trollart.com

It's available in color:

or black & white:

See you at MBA tomorrow,

Mark

*** SUNDAYYYY!!!!

“I'm set to head up to Lancaster for the SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY buggy pull

… just as soon as I strip the buttons off my black suit and grow a

beard. Thanks, Shipmate, for the timely tip!!!”

George Austin Drumbor

*** Funny:

Funny … took me reading about seven or eight of these before I

realized it's April Fool's Day. 🙂

Charles Boisseau

(Now THAT'S funny.)

*** Possum- The other white meat:

You, my friend, are a genius. I almost died laughing reading this. My

co-workers down the hall must wonder what I'm up to. I had to wonder if

it was a coincidence that the contact on the KFP job is named Ray. Ha!

BTW, I actually clicked one of the fake links to see how far the joke

would actually go, and you'll be glad to know it was blocked by our

network's Websense filter for “job search.” Happy April Fool's Day! –

Ray

(There is no such thing as a coincidence.)

*** From Karen Vahouny:

What does this say about the state of organizational names these days

(or my gullibility!) … that it wasn't until #7 on the list that I

remembered it's April Fools Day!!!

I think number 17 got my LOL vote! 🙂

Karen

*** About the Area 224 webinar entitled “Twitter Strategies for

Not-For-Profits.”

What city is this event in?

R

(Good question, but I have a better answer. When you attend a “webinar,”

you do so in front of your own computer, wherever you are. All the

content is sent to you over the internet.)

*** Credit where credit is due:

The March 32nd annual extravaganza was a joint production. Mike Sorohan

deserved a mighty share of the credit. If you didn't like it, it was

his fault.

*** TRAILER NEEDED for community events in Carlisle, Massachusetts,

from Larry Bearfield at Ferns Country Store, the official country store

of the JOTW Network:

If you've attended any of the special Town functions up on the Common,

you've probably noticed that we have no gazebo or anything to serve as a

stage-type area (yet). Typically, a mic is placed at the edge of the

Common and everyone stands on the street while an honored person is

recognized or a solemn occasion unfolds. Indeed, even our Christmas on

the Common event utilizes a makeshift stage made out of milk crates with

a sheet of plywood on top. Although functional, it's tacky.

So, here's an idear Fernites.. We're seeking a donation of a

flatbed-type trailer – say 8×10. one large enough that we can convert

into a portable stage. And volunteers to help convert it.. a creative

engineer, a welder, a painter, cash donations for materials, etc.

Let's make our Town celebrations nicer by providing a stage for them!!

Contact me and I'll coordinate Larry@FernsCountryStore.com
