The Free Job of the Week Newsletter

This is JOTW newsletter number 1,765

“In the depth of winter I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer.”

– Albert Camus

This edition of JOTW comes to you from Irvine, California.

***  Welcome to the JOTW network.

This is the award-winning free Job of the Week e-mail networking newsletter for professional communicators, dedicated to the positive unanticipated consequences of networking, or as we call it, “nedworking.”  JOTW is a cooperative service.  That means JOTW relies on the contributions of its members, like you.  We share job opportunities, news and information about the job market, as well as swapping stories about life’s peculiarities.  We connect you with others who are like you, and together we help each other.  What a concept.  Did I mention it’s free?

***  To submit a job for sharing on JOTW, please provide the job title, organization or company, and location and send it to Ned at lundquist989@cs.com.   Provide a link or contact info so people can check out your listing or follow up if interested.

***  Posting a job is free.    Recruiters can submit up to three jobs for free.  Each job listing may be posted once in the newsletter for free

I request that you do not send pdf files that I have to copy and reformat.  I prefer you provide your very brief job description in an email rather than an enclosure.  Please limit the size of your position descriptions (generally to 500 words or less).  “Can’t Wait” blast email priority listings are $300, and “Top Job” placement is $100.  Just send to me at lundquist989@cs.com.

***  This is a cooperative service.  It relies on your participation and contribution.  As you receive the benefit of this free newsletter, you should also send in jobs you learn about.  This is especially the case when there are job listings in the companies that you work for.

***  To sign up for JOTW’s new Google Groups list, send an email to Ned at lundquist989@cs.com and request to join the new listerv.  If you receive this as an email from neds-job-of-the-week@googlegroups.com, then you are on this list.

***  This week’s Can’t Wait postings:

None this week.

Can’t Wait jobs:  These jobs are forwarded to the entire list as soon as they are received, and do not wait for the Monday newsletter, and are posted prominently on the JOTW website.  Then they are posted first in the weekly JOTW newsletter.  Can’t Wait postings cost $300.  Contact Ned at lundquist989@cs.com.

***  This week’s Top Job:

None this week.

Top Jobs:  Stand above the rest.  Your job can be right here, at the top of the weekly JOTW newsletter.  Top job placement costs $100 per job per week.  To be on top, contact Ned at lundquist989@cs.com.

***  If you find out about a job opportunity in communications, send it to me (lundquist989@cs.com),   and I’ll share it with the JOTW network.

***  Here’s the link for the JOTW newsletter on the website:

http://www.nedsjotw.com/2018/08/27/jotw-35-2018

***  One Paragraph Pitch:

None this week.

***  Send your One Paragraph Pitch submissions to lundquist989@cs.com.   You can pitch yourself or your business anyway you want, as long as it’s short and to the point.  You can include a photo, too! There is no waiting list.  And it’s free!  Submit yours today!

The Free Job of the Week Newsletter

This is JOTW newsletter number 1,764

“We all require and want respect, man or woman, black or white….”
– Aretha Franklin

This edition of JOTW comes to you from Springfield, Virginia.

*** One Paragraph Pitch:

None this week.

*** Send your One Paragraph Pitch submissions to lundquist989@cs.com. You can pitch yourself or your business anyway you want, as long as it’s short and to the point. You can include a photo, too! There is no waiting list. And it’s free! Submit yours today!

Here’s an interactive map that you can use to learn the tribes that originally inhabited your area. The tool works for North America, South and Central America, Africa, Greenland, Australia and islands in the Pacific. You can search by address, language, territory, and treaties.

The map is far from complete, and the authors say as much. Also, I notice that my area uses the generic term, “Ohlone,” when in truth there were actually many politically independent tribal bands that inhabited the area before the Spanish arrived.

JOTW 33-2018

August 13, 2018

The Free Job of the Week Newsletter

www.nedsjotw.com

This is JOTW newsletter number 1,763

“The exact measure of the progress of civilization is the degree in which the intelligence of the common mind has prevailed over wealth and brute force.”

– George Bancroft

This edition of JOTW comes to you from Springfield, Virginia.

***  Here’s the link for the JOTW newsletter on the website:

http://www.nedsjotw.com/2018/08/13/jotw-33-2018

***  One Paragraph Pitch:

None this week.

***  Send your One Paragraph Pitch submissions to lundquist989@cs.com.   You can pitch yourself or your business anyway you want, as long as it’s short and to the point.  You can include a photo, too! There is no waiting list.  And it’s free!  Submit yours today!

***  Stand Out

Rely upon proven tactics to move ahead of competitors in your career and job search. Visit the Stand Out section of Ned’s JOTW website today.

JOTW 32-2018

August 6, 2018

The Free Job of the Week Newsletter

www.nedsjotw.com

This is JOTW newsletter number 1,762

“Honesty is a very expensive gift. Don’t expect it from cheap people.”

– Warren Buffett

This edition of JOTW comes to you from Springfield, Virginia.

***  Here’s the link for the JOTW newsletter on the website:

http://www.nedsjotw.com/2018/07/16/jotw-29-2018

***  One Paragraph Pitch:

We did not grow up asking to hear bedtime annual reports or begging to sit through slide decks. We all wanted to hear stories, because throughout time, that’s the way people have learned information, connected with new people and felt compelled to talk about their experience with others. Randy Ford founded First Story Strategies to help nonprofits, small businesses and corporate social responsibility leaders talk about what they do through the lens of the people whose lives they impact, using storytelling techniques to re-think video, media, events, advocacy, organizational growth and more. Check out www.firststorystrategies.com or drop Randy a note at randy@firststorystrategies.com if you’re ready to tell the stories that inspire change.

***  From Tim Boulay:

Ned!

I have another advertisement for you.

I’m looking for current and former federal government workers – and veterans – for a GS-12/13 public affairs specialist position working with me at the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division in Patuxent River, Md. My command does the research and development, engineering, test and evaluation for everything that the Navy and Marine Corps fly.

For those in Washington, D.C., that aren’t familiar with Pax River, it’s about 90 minutes away, the locality pay is the same as if you are working in the center of the District, housing prices are about two-thirds cheaper, and my commute went from 3 hours a day to 30 minutes.

You can find details at:

https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/506292600.

I’m limited to posting the opening for 10 days, so if you’re interested, apply by midnight on Wednesday, Aug. 9.

The Free Job of the Week Newsletter

www.nedsjotw.com

This is JOTW newsletter number 1,761

“Man must rise above the Earth—to the top of the atmosphere and beyond—for only thus will he fully understand the world in which he lives.”

– Socrates

This edition of JOTW comes to you from Springfield, Virginia.

***  One Paragraph Pitch:

Mary Kay Owen is seeking opportunities that capitalize on her communication, community outreach, networking, and project management skills. Expert planning and flawless execution of projects and events are her forte. Owen commits herself on every level to delivering results – on time and with a collaborative style. In her marketing role for shopping centers managed by PREIT and The Rouse Company, she created ROI through various sponsorships and seasonal activities. A recent fascinating contract project demonstrated her versatility, as it involved researching and reporting on cloud-computing data centers throughout Europe and the Middle East for an international tech company. Mary Kay Owen is ready to deliver value and results to an organization that can benefit from her key strengths, which include creative problem-solving, persuasive writing, planning, execution, and accountability. To contact her, call 610-350-7055 or e-mail owenmk@verizon.net.       www.linkedin.com/in/marykayowen

***  Send your One Paragraph Pitch submissions to lundquist989@cs.com.   You can pitch yourself or your business anyway you want, as long as it’s short and to the point.  You can include a photo, too! There is no waiting list.  And it’s free!  Submit yours today!

***  From Adam Sidel:

Content Producer for Live Event Programming (Full-time), advocacy and lobbying organization, Offered by Brainstorm Resources, Washington, DC

A well-established advocacy and lobbying organization with a focus on foreign affairs and national headquarters offices in Washington, DC is looking to hire a Content Producer into a full-time, on-site, staff position.

The Content Producer/Editor will write, produce and edit speeches, video and other multimedia content for the organization’s events, with the goal of advancing the organization’s political messaging, marketing and fundraising priorities through the use of compelling copy. The person in this role will contribute to the planning and execution of events across the country, including the organization’s annual conference in Washington, DC, national events, and regional events.

The annual conference, held every year in March, welcomes more than fifteen-thousand participants annually, from all 50 states and all over the world. Past guests and speakers include political influentials, community leaders, elected officials, foreign dignitaries, and heads of state.

Brainstorm Creative Resources is recruiting for this position at the request of the hiring organization — a group we have supported on an annual basis, on a wide variety of hiring efforts for more than ten years. We typically post salary and rate ranges in public-facing job descriptions (see below), but we do not typically include employer names. If you are interested in applying for this position, we hope you will allow us to represent you, rather than working independently to identify the hiring organization so that you can inquire with them directly.

POSITION DETAILS:

* Draft, revise and edit remarks for speakers at events

* Conceptualize and produce new, compelling video content for various channels, including events and the web

* Contributing to the organization’s marketing and messaging efforts to both membership and the public, in order to advance the organization’s political and fundraising priorities

* Consult on planning of programs, videos and speakers for events

* Research new speakers and possible content to develop for annual conference and other major national events

* Attend, manage and execute programs at events

QUALIFICATIONS:

We expect applicants to have at least two years of clearly relevant experience. More is better! Ideally qualified individuals will provide resumes that clearly indicate experience writing scripted content for live events, or speech writing experience. We are also interested in receiving resumes from individuals with demonstrable experience writing scripted content for various forms of produced media. We welcome applications from journalists and corporate communications professionals, but we expect that these applicants will go out of their way to help us connect the dots — in other words, to make a strong case for how their previous work experiences qualify them for a script writing role. We encourage all applicants to provide brief cover letters, although it is not necessary to do so.

HOURS / LOCATION:

We are seeking well qualified  individuals who are interested in the following work situation:

(1) a full-time, salaried staff position with benefits;

(4) in Washington, DC;

(2) at a Metrorail and Metrobus-accessible location;

(5) starting in August.

As noted elsewhere in this job description, we are hiring for a 100% on-site, full-time, staff position. All work will be done at the employer’s workplace, which is in a contemporary, privately owned office building a short distance from Union Station. Candidates must be interested in working roughly 40-hours/week — typical full-time hours. During January, February and March of each year there may be some work outside of regular hours, including evenings and possible weekends. Individuals who can only work part-time or who are interested in working from home should not apply. The workplace is easily accessible via car, Metrorail and Metrobus and there are many parking garage and metered on-street parking options.

SALARY:

Per Brainstorm Creative Resources’ guidance, the employer has agreed to consider applicants seeking salaries within the broad range of $45K to $65K. The actual salary offered will be commensurate with experience and market norms. Brainstorm Creative Resources encourages it’s client employers to pay competitively. Highly experienced professionals whose resumes indicate substantial, relevant experience can expect that we will make a strong case to our client, to pay you at or near the top of the range. It is unlikely (but not impossible) that we will be able to support earlier career applicants requests for salaries near the top of the salary range.

APPLICATION:

Brainstorm Creative Resources is a recruiting and staffing firm that has been focused on placing creative and editorial professionals into freelance and full-time positions with Washington, DC-area employers since 2003.

If you are reading this job description at our Application Portal please follow the instructions included below. If you are reading this job description elsewhere please visit us at http://www.brainstormresources.com.  Within our website you can click anywhere you see “Find Work” buttons or text to view all currently open positions. Please follow these steps when you apply:

1) Closely read the complete job description to ensure that you are a terrific fit for the opportunity.

2) If you are a returning applicant please enter your e-mail address and password, and then add the opportunity to your “My Jobs” list.

3) If you have not applied with Brainstorm previously, click the “Apply For This Position” button.

4) During the application process please make sure to:

-> Provide all details requested as you are completing your personal profile (including links to sample work online),

-> Upload a resume and cover letter.

We expect all interested parties to support their application and salary request with a cover letter that clearly indicates their fitness for the position. Only candidates currently residing within a commutable distance of Washington, DC should apply. Applicants not currently living in Washington, DC, Maryland or Virginia, or who inquire without a cover letter, resume and/or work samples should not expect to receive a response. Brainstorm Creative Resources and the hiring organization are EEO employers.
