The pursuit of life for the wounded on the fighting fronts of World War II

Blood and plasma may be the greatest gift of the “Greatest Generation”-their life’s blood given back at home for the wounded on the fighting front. They sent more than a million pints to war! And we will never know how many men and women walk the world today – or will do so in generations to come – because the life of a father or grandfather was saved by one of those gifts of a blood donor during World War II.

 

A radio show called Life to the Front, broadcast weekly over WEEI, the Columbia Broadcasting System’s New England network outlet in Boston, helped keep alive the connection between the home front and the fighting fronts.

 

Each week the broadcast was dedicated “To all the men of the armed forces of the United States… who – on every fighting front in the world – daily risk their lives in the service of their country……that they might live.”

 

Out for Blood includes first-hand accounts of actual participants in some of the war’s toughest battles, and features actual scripts from Life to the Front.

Description of Duties:

 

  • Support annual gatherings to remain apprised of current and emerging surveillance capabilities.
  • Support project reviews and subject matter conferences and/or interchanges.
  • Provide program oversight support consisting of planning and conducting scheduled and impromptu program reviews and technical assessments to insure that technology program goals and status of milestones are in accordance with approved program plans, as well as working with Stakeholders to develop Memoranda of Agreement/Understanding.
  • Provide management support consisting of preparation of correspondence, presentations, reviews, reports, coordinating responses to congressional requests for information/issues, and preparation and coordination of periodic revisions to Program Element (PE) Research, Development, Test and Evaluation, Navy (RDT&E,N) Budget Item Justification Sheet (R2s) for approval by the COR and relevant Program Officers.
  • Assist ONR Principal Investigators and execution staff in developing program Execution Plans
  • Conduct requirements studies and technology assessments, as directed, in support of ONR S&T investment portfolio development.
  • Provide recommendations for aligning S&T development with supported systems commands technology roadmaps and spiral design timelines
  • Assist in establishing Technology Transition Agreements (TTAs) with resource sponsors, systems commands, and industry.
  • Support TTA development to flush out an initial acquisition strategy.
  • Contribute to and report results of Mission Capability Package analyses that relate to S&T.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational project management and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of both single ship and battle group operations in the warfare areas of air and missile defense, spectrum allocation, electronic warfare, anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, asymmetric threat protection, logistics, rules of engagement, order of battle.
  • Knowledge of shipboard systems including: weapons, communications, networks, sensors, shipboard protection systems, current and projected vulnerability.
  • Ability to analyze, model and war-game improvements to surface warfare capabilities based on emergent technological improvements.
  • Relevant experience with the planning, execution and documentation requirements for major test events and operational testing.
  • Proposed middle level personnel should possess a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) plus five (5) years’ experience, a Master of Science (MS) plus eight (8) years of experience, or a Bachelor of Science (BS) plus 10 years of experience in one, or more, of the desired competencies.
  • An active TS/SCI is required.
  • 15% Travel is required.
