*** Welcome to the JOTW network.
*** To submit a job for sharing on JOTW, please provide the job title, organization or company, and location and send it to Ned at lundquist989@cs.com. Provide a link or contact info so people can check out your listing or follow up if interested.
JOTW is sent out on Mondays by email with a list the jobs posted in the full newsletter, which is posted online at www.nedsjotw.com. This is designed to keep the size of the emails to a more manageable length.
*** The position descriptions and or follow up information on links to the jobs can be found at www.nedsjotw.com.
*** Posting a job is free. Recruiters can submit up to three jobs for free. Each job listing may be posted once in the newsletter for free
I request that you do not send pdf files that I have to copy and reformat. I prefer you provide your very brief job description in an email rather than an enclosure. Please limit the size of your position descriptions (generally to 500 words or less). “Can’t Wait” blast email priority listings are $300, and “Top Job” placement is $100.
*** This is a cooperative service. It relies on your participation and contribution. As you receive the benefit of this free newsletter, you should also send in jobs you learn about. This is especially the case when there are job listings in the companies that you work for.
*** To sign up for JOTW or Ned’s other newsletters, visit this site:
.
*** To change your email address for JOTW, use the unsubscribe button at the bottom of your newsletter, and then subscribe with your new address at: .
*** This week’s Can’t Wait posting:
None this week.
Can’t Wait jobs: These jobs are forwarded to the entire list as soon as they are received, and do not wait for the Monday newsletter, and are posted prominently on the JOTW website. Then they are posted first in the weekly JOTW newsletter. Can’t Wait postings cost $300. Contact Ned at lundquist989@cs.com.
*** This week’s top job:
None this week.
*** Top Jobs: Stand above the rest. Your job can be right here, at the top of the weekly JOTW newsletter. Top job placement costs $100 per job per week. To be on top, contact Ned at lundquist989@cs.com.
*** If you find out about a job opportunity in communications, send it to me (lundquist989@cs.com), and I’ll share it with the JOTW network.
*** The JOTW network is built upon cooperative principles. Share, and reap the benefits. And it feels good to help others. I call it selfish altruism. But this also means you need to contribute.
*** Listing a position is free. Top jobs placement is $100, and a “Can’t Wait” posting is $300.

26.) Director of Public Relations, Flir Systems, Wilsonville, Oregon
We are FLIR Systems, and we create technology that enhances human perception. That’s what we mean by, “The World’s Sixth Sense.” We are best known as a world leader in thermal imaging, but we also create a host of other detection technologies that increase awareness and personal safety, “For Your Life” (consumer), “For Your Work” (professional/industrial) and “For Your Mission” (law enforcement/military).
Our products are diverse, and so are the markets we sell to. We are global and growing. And we are looking for a rock star Director of Public Relations who will design and implement an overall public relations strategy that will help make FLIR a household name.
The Director of PR is a new position that involves equal parts “big picture strategy” and “nuts and bolts” implementation. In other words, you will need to be a thought leader who can mind the details. And because it’s a new role, this could be your chance to build your dream job.
FLIR is a technology company, so you will ideally have a background working in the tech space. We don’t expect you to know thermal science up front, but you’ll need to be a quick study. We launch multiple products every year, and are expanding our reach into consumer markets.
You’ll report to the Senior VP/Chief Marketing Officer and manage a mid-sized team.
We promise your job will never be boring.
On any given day you might plan a press event for a tradeshow in Vegas, explain the basics of infrared with a writer at Gizmodo, discuss an upcoming product launch with FLIR executives, or pitch Hollywood producers with the idea of using FLIR cameras in an upcoming superhero flick.
Like it so far?
What you will do:
- Develop and coordinate internal and external public relations strategies in
support of six distinct business lines
- Be the chief point of contact for media (Hint: your phone will be your constant companion)
- Find strategies for increasing FLIR exposure in mass media, trade magazines, and
online channels.
- Work in concert with vertical marketing directors, executive staff, and product managers to ensure PR plans are accurate, on point, and adhere to FLIR branding standards.
- Develop high impact media campaigns, especially in support of international product launches
- Promote FLIR as a thought leader in the detection and thermal imaging industries
- Manage your department budget and work schedules with aplomb
- Oversee and champion FLIR’s social media activities, collaborating with internal support staff
Qualities you will need to thrive in this position:
- You are an experienced PR professional with strong knowledge and relationships with key media
- You have demonstrated success building online and social media presence for a global company
- You ideally have combination of agency and in-house experience (but especially in-house)
- You have managed the PR campaigns of major product launches—from preparing media kits to orchestrating press events
- You are a collaborative, team player with a high degree of initiative, drive, accountability, judgment, and flexibility
- You are an outstanding writer, editor and grammar cop (Knowledge of AP Style is a plus)
- You are undaunted at the thought of explaining thermal technology accurately and
authoritatively on the spot without notes
- You have demonstrated experience managing and inspiring small teams of employees who
would say good things about you
- You are eager to travel domestically and internationally–up to 50 percent of the time
- You are adept at working with journalists, editors, and bloggers on deadline
Job Requirements
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- 10 – 15 years relevant experience, including experience in PR implementation and proven ability managing domestic and international projects.
- Proven effectiveness in developing and executing media plans.
- Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to work with executives across diverse groups and translate complex concepts into clear, concise and compelling messages for the media.
- Proficient in measuring and reporting on the progress of public relations initiatives against goals.
