The Free Job of the Week Newsletter

This is JOTW newsletter number 2,062

“It isn’t necessary to imagine the world ending in fire or ice. There are two other possibilities: one is paperwork, and the other is nostalgia.”

– Frank Zappa

This edition of JOTW comes to you from Springfield, Virginia.

***  Welcome to the JOTW network!

You are one of more than 5,700+ members in the JOTW subscriber network.

This is the award-winning free Job of the Week e-mail networking newsletter for professional communicators, dedicated to the positive unanticipated consequences of networking, or as we call it, “nedworking.”  JOTW is a cooperative service.  That means JOTW relies on the contributions of its members, like you.  We share job opportunities, news and information about the job market, as well as swapping stories about life’s peculiarities.  We connect you with others who are like you, and together we help each other.  What a concept.  Did I mention it’s free?

***  To submit a job for sharing on JOTW, please provide the job title, organization or company, and location and send it to Ned at lundquist989@cs.com.   Provide a link or contact info so people can check out your listing or follow up if interested.

***  Posting a job is free.    Recruiters can submit up to three jobs for free.  Each job listing may be posted once in the newsletter for free

I request that you do not send pdf files that I have to copy and reformat.  I prefer you provide your very brief job description in an email rather than an enclosure.  Please limit the size of your position descriptions (generally to 500 words or less).  “Can’t Wait” blast email priority listings are $300, and “Top Job” placement is $100.  Just send to me at lundquist989@cs.com.

***  This is a cooperative service.  It relies on your participation and contribution.  As you receive the benefit of this free newsletter, you should also send in jobs you learn about.  This is especially the case when there are job listings in the companies that you work for.

***  To sign up for JOTW’s new Google Groups list, send an email to Ned at lundquist989@cs.com and request to join the JOTW listserv.  If you received this as an email from neds-job-of-the-week@googlegroups.com, then you are on this list.

***  A special message to my JOTW subscribers

I have been faithfully publishing this newsletter since the beginning of 2001.  I started the network to connect people, including myself.  It helped me find employment when I was looking for work–TWICE, and it has helped many of you find jobs.  In fact, while I do get some feedback, I am aware of cases of subscribers who made a successful connection that led to a real job as a result of JOTW, even if the individuals involved never told me afterwards.  Hey, it happens.

JOTW has always been an avocation for me.  There was a time when I had some paid sponsors, and I admit the money was welcomed, but I never looked at this is as my job.  At one point I had more than 11,000 subscribers.  But there was a problem with the Topica service I was using.  It stopped functioning properly and even as I continued to post the newsletter, I couldn’t tell if all of my subscribers were receiving it. Ultimately, I was able to rebuild the subscriber base using Google Groups, which has worked well for me, but I have never topped 6,000 readers in the post-Topica era.  If I worked hard at outreach, I could grow awareness and increase both subscribers and job listings…and sponsors.  It’s a function of time, mostly, and I don’t really want to make a new investment of time.

I have been extremely faithful in posting JOTW every Monday.  The latest issue represents JOTW newsletter number 2,061.  I took a few weeks off for a vacation once or twice, but most of the time, even when I was on travel, I got the newsletter out–whether it had 30 job opportunities or 130, from wherever I was in the world.

In order to give myself the luxury of that time I spend each week working on JOTW, I plan to cease publishing the newsletter at the end of 2024.

If anyone would like to assume the list of subscribers and the website so you can continue to send out the newsletter yourself and post it online as you see fit, please contact me at lundquist989@cs.com and we can work out the details.

Thank you for being a part of this network.

The VP provides comprehensive account leadership, develops and maintains client relationships and leads internal teams to create and execute value and results for clients.  The VP also serves as a senior advisor to high-profile clients, and a principal communications and public relations strategist to client company executives.  The VP is responsible for the overall advancement of the Public Relations practice, cultivating internal talent, and growing new business.
